Make Your Own Hours – This is probably the top advantages in being an appraiser. Appraising a home requires an appraiser to go inside the home and is the appraiser’s job to make an appointment with the homeowner for this purpose. Therefore, if you are not an early person, for example, then make your appointments at a time more convenient. Working at Home – This is a choice. Appraisers can type their reports at home or at their place of employment. Many appraisers do both.

Freedom from Bosses – Another great advantage is that appraisers do not have their bosses in front of them. Although you have a boss to report to, you are actually your own boss since you make the hours and decide what to do during the day. People in real estate appraising tend to have less stress than people in other careers.

One Small Disadvantage – In appraising you use your own car. This means your gas, your wear-and-tear and your problem if your car breaks down. On the other hand, most companies will pay for part of your mileage which is why it is labeled a small disadvantage. People who enjoy driving generally do not care much about this because, on the other hand, a day of driving can be spent listening to favorite songs.

The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages in real estate appraising. Once you have your license, your certificate and E & O Insurance for Appraisers then you are good to go.
